Hollywood Studios is the park where I most consistently recommend buying Lightning Lane. Here’s my honest ranking and how to make it work.
Why This Park Is Different
Hollywood Studios has the highest average wait times of any Walt Disney World park, but a relatively short list of headliner attractions. That combination means Lightning Lane does more heavy lifting here than anywhere else — this is the park where I tell clients it’s genuinely worth the splurge.
Top-Tier Priority
Slinky Dog Dash — The single most in-demand Lightning Lane at all of Walt Disney World, not just this park. This needs to be your very first advance selection, full stop, regardless of what return time you’re offered.
Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway — A clear second choice, and the default top pick for families with younger kids who aren’t ready for the park’s bigger thrill rides.
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run — A reliable, steady performer that rarely has major downtime. If you strike out on a same-day Lightning Lane here, the Single Rider line is a solid backup.
Second-Tier Priority
Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Toy Story Mania are essentially tied for the best second-tier picks — both have wait times well above everything else in this group. I’d lean toward Tower of Terror if forced to choose, since ride downtime tends to spike its standby line more unpredictably.
Alien Swirling Saucers and Star Tours are fine picks if you have a slot left over, but neither is essential — standby is often perfectly manageable for both.
Skip Lightning Lane for Shows
Stage shows like Beauty and the Beast: Live on Stage, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, and the Frozen Sing-Along don’t benefit meaningfully from Lightning Lane. Save your selections for rides — standby works fine for shows.
My Honest Take
If your family only buys Lightning Lane at one park during your trip, make it this one. Slinky Dog Dash books up fastest of anything at Walt Disney World, so if it’s on your must-do list, this needs to be the very first thing you book the moment your window opens — everything else can wait.
