Disney Resort Luggage Transfer: What to Know for a Split Stay

A Disney split stay can be a great way to experience two resorts or improve the location for different parts of a trip. The biggest logistical question is often luggage.

Why luggage transfer helps

Disney may offer resort-to-resort luggage transfer between eligible Disney Resort hotels. That can allow you to hand off the bags and continue with your day instead of personally moving suitcases across property.

Do not pack everything you need that day

Transferred luggage may not be immediately available at the next resort. I keep anything time-sensitive with me.

  • Medication
  • Park essentials
  • Chargers
  • A change of clothes if needed
  • Swimsuits if you plan to use the pool
  • Anything needed for young children

Think about transition day as a real travel day

Even when Disney handles the bags, changing resorts still creates a transition. Check-out and check-in timing, room availability, transportation, and where you want to spend the middle of the day all matter.

When split stays make the most sense

  • You want to experience two resort categories
  • Different resort locations help different park days
  • A room is only available for part of the stay
  • You want to combine a more affordable first segment with a higher-end finish

When I keep one resort

If the family hates packing, has very young children, or gains little from the location change, the convenience of staying put can be more valuable.

Split stays sound more complicated than they usually are

One of the reasons people avoid Disney split stays is luggage. They picture checking out of one resort, dragging suitcases through a park, storing everything somewhere and losing half a vacation day.

Disney resort-to-resort luggage transfer can remove a lot of that friction for eligible stays.

What I would keep with me on transfer day

Even when luggage transfer is available, I never plan like the suitcase will magically appear the second I reach Resort #2.

  • Medication
  • Park bag
  • Chargers
  • Swimsuits if you plan to use the pool
  • Anything needed for a dining reservation or special event
  • Kids’ essentials
  • A change of clothes if the day might require one

How I like to use the transfer day

The cleanest version is usually: check out, hand off the luggage according to the resort’s current procedure, go enjoy the day, then head to the second resort later.

You do not need to physically move the bags between hotels yourself, which is the piece that makes the split stay much more realistic.

The mistake I would avoid

Do not schedule something at Resort #2 that requires access to your checked luggage immediately after check-in time.

If your dinner outfit, medications or kids’ nighttime essentials are buried in the transferred suitcase, you have created unnecessary pressure.

When a split stay is actually worth doing

I do not split resorts simply because two hotels look fun.

I like split stays when the location shift improves the park plan. Maybe you begin near Animal Kingdom and move to the EPCOT area for the second half. Maybe you want one portion of the trip focused on a Deluxe experience without paying that rate for the entire stay.

When I would keep one resort

If you have young kids who struggle with transitions, a short trip, or a family that values unpacking once and being done, one resort may be the better vacation.

Just because Disney can move the luggage does not mean every family needs to move the hotel.
