You open My Disney Experience and see a 90-minute wait for one of your favorite rides. Should you just pay for Lightning Lane? Sometimes. But that number alone doesn’t answer the question.
First, what type of Lightning Lane is available?
Disney has Multi Pass, Single Pass and Premier Pass. The option for the ride matters. You cannot assume every attraction has an individual Lightning Lane you can buy whenever you want. Check Disney’s current offerings and the app for availability and price.
Is this actually a must-do?
If a ride is the highlight of your teenager’s vacation, it deserves a different decision than an attraction your family would simply enjoy if convenient.
What’s the real total for your family?
Calculate the price for everyone who will use the purchase. An add-on that sounds reasonable for one person can become a substantial expense for a family of five. Compare the total with what you’ll actually gain.
Can you change when you ride?
Standby waits fluctuate. Sometimes they ease later in the day, but this is never guaranteed. I’d check current park hours, weather, and what else you want to experience before deciding to wait.
What could you do with the time you save?
Saving 60 minutes matters more if it allows your family to experience two other priorities than if you were planning a leisurely afternoon anyway.
My verdict
I’d buy strategically—not automatically. Prioritize the rides you care about, know the kind of pass each uses, and be willing to say no when the numbers don’t add up.
