Disney World in January 2027: The Dates I’d Compare Before Booking

Thinking about Disney World in January because you’ve heard the crowds disappear after Christmas? I would take a closer look at your exact dates before booking. January can be a great fit for families who dislike heat, but holiday travel, race weekend and a three-day weekend make different parts of the month feel very different.

Start with the dates that can change your trip

New Year’s travel affects the beginning of the month. The Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend runs January 6–10, 2027. Even if no one in your family is running, review transportation notices and allow extra time for early morning travel. A race event does not mean every park will be equally busy all day.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day falls on January 18. I would compare the surrounding weekend separately from a regular midweek stay rather than treating all of January as one low-crowd season.

The January windows I would investigate first

If your dates are flexible, I would start by comparing January 11–14 and January 19–28. Those are research windows from my 2027 date guide, not promises of empty parks or the lowest price. Your exact hotel, room category, length of stay and school schedule still matter.

For a longer vacation, check what falls at both ends of the stay. A quieter-looking arrival date does not tell you what the rest of the week will look like. I would compare two complete resort-and-ticket quotes before deciding.

Is Festival of the Arts part of your wish list?

Disney lists EPCOT International Festival of the Arts for January 15–March 1, 2027. If that is a priority, a trip ending January 14 will not give you the experience you wanted. This is exactly why I compare the experience you want with the dates you are considering.

Plan for layers and realistic evenings

I would pack for changing conditions rather than build the trip around guaranteed pool afternoons. Bring layers that work for cool mornings and evenings, check the forecast close to departure, and give yourself a way to carry what you take off during the day.

With little kids, decide which nights are worth staying out late. An early park start after a late evening may look efficient on paper and feel very different with a tired preschooler.

What I would handle before arrival

Choose your resort and ticket length first, then build a loose park plan before dining decisions. Make a short list of must-do experiences, set the booking reminders that apply to your reservation, and check attraction refurbishments and park hours when Disney releases them. If one ride is the whole reason for your trip, its operating status deserves a check.
