Five Things I’d Rather Spend $500 On at Disney World

If you had an extra $500 for your Disney World vacation, where would you put it? A ticket upgrade? More Lightning Lanes? A nicer room?

As a Disney travel advisor and mom of three, I’d rather spend on things that actually make your family’s trip easier or more memorable. These are five options I’d compare first.

1. Another night at your Disney resort

Depending on dates and resort, $500 could cover another night or a meaningful part of one. That can mean a slower arrival day, an actual pool day, or room to breathe between busy park days. You don’t necessarily need another park ticket just because you’re staying longer.

2. A special character meal

If your kids love meeting characters, a character meal may be a highlight. Compare the characters, menu, location, and actual total for your party first. For some families it is worth it; for others I’d skip it.

3. More convenient transportation

Airport transfers, rental cars, and other transportation options can be worth considering when you’re traveling with car seats, strollers, and tired kids. The cheapest option isn’t always the easiest travel day.

4. A resort location that works better for your family

I wouldn’t automatically upgrade resort categories. But if paying a bit more puts you on convenient transportation for the parks you’ll visit most, it’s worth comparing. Magic Kingdom access and Skyliner access can matter more than a fancy lobby.

5. One experience your family is genuinely excited about

Maybe that’s Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, a special meal, or a carefully chosen Lightning Lane purchase. I’d rather put money toward your family’s priorities than buy upgrades simply because they exist.

Sometimes I’d save the $500

You don’t have to spend every available dollar. Your children probably won’t remember which ticket upgrade you passed on. They will remember the fun you had together.
